We at Bay Staters for Creative Well-Being are honored to welcome Derived to our team, as he and his partner Lily build community around gardening in Hyde Park and Mattapan with their new project, The Garden Body. For their first event, Gardening for Empathy, we welcome you with open arms to join us at Weider Park at 131 Dale Street on Sunday, April 26th at 2pm.

Please sign up here for updates and calendar reminders for similar events.

Agenda for the Community Event:

  1. Discuss the meaning of "Gardening for Empathy".

  2. Discuss our responsibility in supporting the natural-ecosystem.

  3. Identify native plants to support pollinators and companion-planting.

Activities:

  1. Vision Board for Garden – Based on what they learned from the session, attendees will be asked to plan their garden.

  2. Seed Starting Kit Activity – We’ll start seed-kits with attendees based off their vision board – seeds, soil, mulch, and repurposed containers will be provided. Aprons are available if needed.

  3. Birding and Tree Guides: – We'll have materials that you can take home and share with others so that we can invite our neighbors to be stewards of this land together.

The Seeds of Change

Prioritizing empathy for the land and other living-beings through gardening and stewardship — gardening sustainably in the soil to revitalize our connection back to Nature; acknowledging the micro-organisms & insects tending the soils beneath our feet and the natural-ecosystem around us; allowing space & empathy for the bees, birds, and other critters on Earth while gardening.

We'll learn about food-sovereignty (revitalizing our ability & our freedom to grow our own foods,) and stewarding the land (understanding the value of environmental-conservation, and sustainability).

We want to empower Hyde Park and Mattapan residents to plant and grow sustainably in the soil - whether it is for fresh-vegetables, greens, herbs — or pollinator-gardens/habitat-gardens. Throughout the upcoming weeks, we'll provide workshops such as: growing seedlings from upcycled materials, transplanting plants, building garden-beds, creating bird-feeders, and so much more!

Additionally, we'll provide informational-resources and free growing-materials to Hyde Park & Mattapan residents such as: raised-garden-beds, seeds, and seedlings.

This event is fun for all ages

Any donation you choose to give will support hosting future events
